Longer itineraries add the Katpana and Sarfaranga cold deserts, Manthoka Waterfall, Basho Valley, or a trek toward the Karakoram base camps. Best time to visit Skardu (Month by Month)
Skardu's landscape shifts dramatically through the year. Spring (April to May) is crisp and clear, famous for apricot and cherry blossoms in Shigar and Khaplu valleys. Summer (June to August) is the peak season — the weather is pleasantly warm, and it is the only time the Deosai plateau is fully accessible. Autumn (September to October) brings striking golden and red foliage against the snow-capped Karakoram peaks, making it ideal for photography. Winter (November to March) is extremely cold, with frozen lakes and snow-covered deserts; while flights still operate, many high-altitude roads like Deosai are completely blocked.
Road vs Air: How to reach Skardu
Flying from Islamabad to Skardu takes about an hour and offers one of the most scenic commercial flights in the world, passing right by Nanga Parbat. However, flights are strictly dependent on clear weather, so we always build a buffer day into fly-in itineraries. The overland journey along the Karakoram Highway and the winding Indus gorge is an adventure in itself, taking about 17–20 hours of driving time. We split this over two days with an overnight stop in Chilas or Naran. Many travellers choose to fly one way and drive the other to enjoy both speed and scenery.
How much does a Skardu tour package cost?
Skardu packages are priced for the whole group, not per head. By-road trips start from around PKR 230,000 for a group of four — about PKR 57,500 each — and longer or larger departures run higher. Fly-in trips start from about PKR 104,000 for a couple on a 4-day itinerary. Air tickets are the one part charged per seat: roughly PKR 60,000 return from Islamabad, 72,000 from Lahore and 100,000 from Karachi, confirmed when we book them. Skardu's high altitude means temperatures can drop sharply, even in mid-summer. For a summer trip, pack layers: t-shirts for the day, but a warm fleece jacket, windbreaker, and thermal base layers for evenings and the Deosai excursion (which sits above 4,000m). Bring sturdy walking shoes, high-SPF sunscreen (the sun is harsh at altitude), sunglasses, and lip balm. If visiting in spring or autumn, a heavy down jacket, warm hat, and gloves are essential. Always pack motion sickness tablets if you are sensitive to winding mountain roads.

Safety, altitude, and permits
Skardu and the wider Baltistan region are exceptionally safe and welcoming for tourists. Pakistani nationals need no permits. Foreign nationals travel on their passport; only a handful of restricted zones (like areas very close to the Siachen border) require an NOC, which we arrange in advance. Since Skardu sits at 2,230m and Deosai exceeds 4,000m, we design itineraries to help you acclimatise gradually. Our guides carry first-aid kits, monitor weather and altitude, and stay in constant contact with our base office.
