Chitral & Kalash Valley Tour Packages
The Kalash valleys, Shandur Pass, Garam Chashma and the towering Hindu Kush.
How do I visit the Kalash valleys in Chitral?
The Kalash valleys — Bumburet, Rumbur and Birir — sit near Chitral in the Hindu Kush and are home to the Kalash people and their living pre-Islamic traditions. Reaching them takes 6–8 days from Islamabad via the Lowari Tunnel. Pakistan Travellers runs it as a private trip, often combined with Garam Chashma and Shandur Pass.
- The Chilam Joshi spring festival in May is the best-known time to visit.
- Photography of Kalash people requires asking permission — this is a living community, not an exhibit.
- Shandur Pass connects Chitral to Gilgit but is summer-only.
Our Chitral and Kalash Valley tour packages reach one of the most culturally fascinating corners of Pakistan — the ancient Kalash valleys of Bumburet, Rumbur and Birir, the hot springs of Garam Chashma, the high Shandur Pass, and views of Tirich Mir, the highest peak of the Hindu Kush. It is a journey into living heritage and dramatic mountain scenery.
What a Chitral & Kalash package covers
A typical 5 to 7 day trip combines Chitral town with the Kalash valleys — Bumburet and Rumbur — and can add Garam Chashma's hot springs or a crossing of the Lowari Tunnel. Longer summer itineraries cross the spectacular Shandur Pass between Chitral and Gilgit.
Best time to visit Chitral
Chitral is best from April to October. Summer is ideal for the Shandur route and the high valleys, while the famous Kalash festivals — Chilam Joshi in spring and Uchal in summer — are wonderful, if busy, times to visit the Kalash valleys.
How much does a Chitral Kalash tour cost?
Chitral and Kalash are quoted on request rather than sold as a fixed package — the distances are long and the Lowari and Shandur routes change with the season. Like every trip we run it is priced for the whole group, with hotels, transport and a guide. Itineraries that add Shandur Pass or fly one leg cost more. Tell us your dates, party size and route for an exact quote.
What's included in the price
Packages include hotels on the stated basis, transport from your pick-up city, fuel and tolls, a guide for Chitral and the Kalash valleys, and the listed sightseeing. Festival arrangements, the Garam Chashma side trip and personal expenses are usually additional — we share a clear inclusions list with each quote.

Most Chitral trips are fully customised
We rarely sell a fixed, off-the-shelf tour. Instead we build each itinerary around your dates, group size, pace and budget — and confirm hotels based on live availability for your travel window. Your total package cost comes down to just two choices:
A private 4×4 with a trained mountain driver, sized to your group. For a smooth, comfortable mountain journey we usually recommend the Toyota Prado TZ, though the full range — from sedans to Land Cruisers, Grand Cabins and Coasters — is available depending on your group size.
Choose from four tiers — Standard, Executive, Luxury and Premium. Same route, elevated comfort at each step. Premium and 5★ stays such as Shangrila, Broqand other resorts deliver the best locations and views; these raise the total but are worth it for a special trip.
