Minimarg Tour
The hidden green valley beyond Astore — Rama Meadow, Domel and the road over Burzil Pass.
Minimarg is one of the north's best-kept secrets — a lush, pine-clad green valley hidden beyond Astore, close to the Line of Control, reached over the dramatic Burzil Pass. Long a restricted military area, it is now open to tourists in summer and rewards the effort with meadows, forests and the deep-green Domel and Rama valleys nearby. Our Minimarg tours handle the 4x4 transport, the paperwork, comfortable stays and a local guide so you can enjoy this rarely-visited corner of Gilgit Baltistan safely.
Where is Minimarg and how do you get there
Minimarg lies in the Astore district of Gilgit Baltistan, east of the Deosai plateau and near the Line of Control. It is reached by 4x4 from Astore over the high Burzil Pass, or combined with a Deosai crossing from Skardu. The track is rough and high, so a capable jeep and an experienced driver are essential — which is exactly what our tours provide.
What to see in and around Minimarg
Minimarg itself is a wide green valley of pine forest and summer meadows. Nearby, the Domel valley is famous for its emerald-green expanse, and Rama Meadow and Rama Lake near Astore are among the most beautiful in the north, framed by Nanga Parbat. Many itineraries pair Minimarg with Rama and a Deosai crossing for a complete Astore-region adventure.
Sample Minimarg itinerary
A typical route: Day 1 travel from Islamabad toward Chilas or Astore; Day 2 reach Astore and visit Rama Meadow and Rama Lake; Day 3 4x4 over Burzil Pass to Minimarg and the Domel valley, overnight locally; Day 4 explore Minimarg's meadows and forests; Day 5 return via Astore, optionally crossing the Deosai plateau to Skardu; Day 6 begin the journey home. We adjust the days and add Deosai or Skardu to suit your time.
Permits and access
Because Minimarg is close to the Line of Control it has historically been a sensitive zone. Access for tourists is generally open in summer, but rules can change and some documentation may be required, especially for foreign nationals. We check the current position before every departure and handle any paperwork so your trip is smooth and compliant.
Best time to visit Minimarg
Minimarg is a summer destination. The valley and the Burzil Pass are only reliably open from roughly late June to September, when the meadows are green and the high track is clear of snow. Outside this window the pass closes and the area is inaccessible, so we run Minimarg tours in the summer season only.
Where you stay
Accommodation in Minimarg and Astore is simple — local guest houses, rest houses and, on some trips, camping in the meadows. This is remote, off-the-beaten-track travel, so comfort is basic but the setting is extraordinary. We pick the best available stays and can arrange quality camping gear for a night under the stars.

Most Minimarg & Astore trips are fully customised
We rarely sell a fixed, off-the-shelf tour. Instead we build each itinerary around your dates, group size, pace and budget — and confirm hotels based on live availability for your travel window. Your total package cost comes down to just two choices:
A private 4×4 with a trained mountain driver, sized to your group. For a smooth, comfortable mountain journey we usually recommend the Toyota Prado TZ, though the full range — from sedans to Land Cruisers, Grand Cabins and Coasters — is available depending on your group size.
Choose from four tiers — Standard, Executive, Luxury and Premium. Same route, elevated comfort at each step. Premium and 5★ stays such as Shangrila, Broqand other resorts deliver the best locations and views; these raise the total but are worth it for a special trip.
