Why visit Sharan Forest
Sharan is a rare stretch of untouched, old-growth Himalayan forest — tall pines and firs, mossy trails, and a deep quiet you rarely find at busier hill stations. It is a favourite for camping, photography and simply breathing clean forest air. Because it is off the main tourist track, it stays peaceful even in peak season, making it perfect for nature lovers and small groups.
Camping and cabins at Sharan
Sharan is best experienced overnight. There are wooden cabins and organised campsites among the trees, and camping under the pines with a bonfire is the classic Sharan experience. Facilities are basic — this is remote nature travel — so we arrange quality tents, sleeping gear and meals, or book the better cabins, depending on your preference and group.
The Manshi Top trek
From Sharan, a rewarding forest trek climbs to Manshi Top, opening to meadows and sweeping Kaghan Valley views above the treeline. It is a moderate half-day hike suited to reasonably fit walkers. Our guides lead the trail, set the pace and point out the forest's birdlife and viewpoints along the way.
How to get to Sharan Forest
Sharan lies above Paras in the Kaghan Valley, reached by a rough jeep track that branches off the main Kaghan road. It is roughly 5–6 hours from Islamabad to Paras, then a slow, bumpy 4x4 climb to the forest. A capable jeep and an experienced driver are essential — both are included in our Sharan tours.
Best time to visit Sharan
Summer (May–September) is the season for Sharan — green, cool and ideal for camping, with the access track open and dry. Monsoon spells can make the track muddy, so we plan around the weather. Outside summer the forest can be cold and the track difficult, so we run Sharan camping trips mainly in the warm months.
