Deosai Tour Package

The Land of Giants — Sheosar Lake, summer wildflowers and brown bears.

Quick answer

When is Deosai National Park open, and how do I visit it?

Deosai is a plateau at around 4,000 m, reachable from Skardu (about 2–3 hours by 4x4) or from Astore. It is normally open from late June to September once the snow clears, with wildflowers, Sheosar Lake and Himalayan brown bears. Pakistan Travellers includes it in Skardu packages as a full-day or overnight 4x4 trip.

  • Snowbound and closed for most of the year — summer only.
  • 4x4 is essential; there is no metalled road across the plateau.
  • At 4,000 m, altitude is real — come via Skardu rather than ascending straight from the plains.

Our Deosai tour package takes you onto one of the highest plateaus on earth — the Deosai Plains, at around 4,000 m. In summer the 'Land of Giants' bursts into wildflowers, the mirror-like Sheosar Lake reflects the peaks, and the rare Himalayan brown bear roams the grasslands.

How to visit Deosai

Deosai is reached by 4x4 jeep from Skardu, making it a perfect day trip or overnight camping add-on to any Skardu itinerary. There are two main approaches — the Sadpara route from Skardu and the Chilam route from Astore — and the drive up is dramatic, climbing switchbacks onto a plateau so vast you can travel for hours without seeing another vehicle. Because it links Skardu and Astore, Deosai can also be crossed as a spectacular route between Baltistan and the Astore/Rama side.

What you'll see on the plateau

The headline sights are Sheosar Lake — a still, high-altitude lake that mirrors the surrounding peaks — and, in July and August, endless carpets of alpine wildflowers. Deosai National Park protects the rare Himalayan brown bear, and you'll almost certainly spot golden marmots, foxes, and rich birdlife including golden eagles. The sense of scale and silence is what most visitors remember.

Best time and what to pack

Deosai is only accessible when snow-free, usually from around July to September, with peak wildflowers in July–August. Even in summer it is cold, windy and exposed at 4,000 m, so pack warm layers, a windproof jacket, strong sun protection and sturdy shoes. Altitude can be felt here, so we keep the pace easy and carry water and first-aid. For more on the park, see our Deosai National Park travel guide.

How much does a Deosai tour cost?

Deosai is usually visited as a 4x4 day trip or overnight camp added to a Skardu package, so the cost depends on your wider Skardu itinerary, group size and whether you camp overnight. The jeep and park entry are included and explained up front in your quote. Message us with your Skardu dates and we'll build Deosai in and send a clear, tailored price — often within 30 minutes.

BUILT AROUND YOU

Most Skardu trips are fully customised

We rarely sell a fixed, off-the-shelf tour. Instead we build each itinerary around your dates, group size, pace and budget — and confirm hotels based on live availability for your travel window. Your total package cost comes down to just two choices:

1 · Your vehicle

A private 4×4 with a trained mountain driver, sized to your group. For a smooth, comfortable mountain journey we usually recommend the Toyota Prado TZ, though the full range — from sedans to Land Cruisers, Grand Cabins and Coasters — is available depending on your group size.

2 · Your hotel standard

Choose from four tiers — Standard, Executive, Luxury and Premium. Same route, elevated comfort at each step. Premium and 5★ stays such as Shangrila, Broqand other resorts deliver the best locations and views; these raise the total but are worth it for a special trip.
