Pakistan Travellers is a tour operator and travel agency working across Gilgit-Baltistan. We have run private trips in the region since 2013, with our head office in Rawalpindi and a regional office in Sargrong Road, near City Police Station, Shigar, an hour from Skardu city.

This page is the regional overview — which valleys we cover and how we are set up in each. For the trips themselves see Gilgit-Baltistan tour packages, and if what you actually want is help judging one operator against another, that is a different question and we have written it up separately on choosing a tour company in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Where we operate across Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan is far larger than it looks on a map, and the valleys inside it are not variations on one another — Baltistan and Hunza have different roads, different seasons and different hotels. Rather than repeat each valley here, this is where we work and where to read more.

Tour operator in Hunza

Hunza is the half of the region most first-time visitors start with, and it is the easier half logistically — the Karakoram Highway is paved the whole way to the border, the hotels are the best developed in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the valley stays reachable later into the year than Baltistan does.

We run Hunza as private trips from Islamabad, usually six to seven days by road, with Khunjerab as a day from Karimabad and Attabad and Passu on the way up. Blossom season in late March and April and the autumn colour in October are the two windows people plan around. Full detail, itineraries and live prices are on the Hunza tour packages page rather than repeated here.

Our Gilgit-Baltistan tour packages

Live from our catalogue, so a price change in our system reaches this table the same day. Read the basis line under each figure: most trips are priced for the whole group sharing one vehicle, and any still shown per person say so.

What we handle as your tour operator

The word covers a lot of different businesses in Pakistan, so it is worth being specific about what we actually do rather than broker out.

  • Transport. Our own vehicles and our own drivers, 4x4 where the route needs it — the fleet is published with rates.
  • Hotels across every category, booked and paid by us, with an equivalent property of the same category arranged if a listed one is unavailable.
  • Flights. The Islamabad–Skardu and Islamabad–Gilgit sectors, inside by-air packages.
  • Route planning around the season — which passes are open, which valleys are worth the drive in a given month, and which combinations do not fit the days you have.
  • Custom itineraries for dates, budgets or interests that no standard package covers — tell us what you want.
  • Vehicles on their own, without a package, for travellers arranging the rest themselves.

How we are set up on the ground

Most companies selling Gilgit-Baltistan trips are selling from Punjab and subcontracting to whoever is available in the valley that week. That works until something goes wrong, and in the mountains something goes wrong regularly — a pass closes, a flight cancels, a hotel gives away a room it confirmed.

We are set up the other way round: an office inside the region at Sargrong Road, near City Police Station, Shigar, drivers who work these roads through the season rather than for a fortnight in July, and vehicles that are ours. It is not a marketing claim so much as an operational one — it decides how fast a plan can change when the mountain decides it must.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, and it is the trip we run most often. The two are joined by the road through Gilgit, roughly seven to eight hours between Skardu and Hunza, so a combined route works comfortably in ten to twelve days by road. If you fly one leg into Skardu you can do a shorter version. What we would not recommend is squeezing both into under a week — you would spend most of it in the vehicle.

Private, always. You get your own vehicle and your own driver, and the itinerary is yours to change on the morning if the weather turns. We do not sell seats on a shared coach. That is why our pricing is quoted for the group rather than per head — the vehicle costs the same whether four or six of you are in it.

Some of it. Hunza stays reachable through winter and is beautiful under snow, and Skardu is served by air when the weather allows. What closes is the high ground: Khunjerab, Babusar, Deosai and Shandur are all under snow, and Fairy Meadows is not accessible. A winter trip is a different itinerary, not a summer one with colder weather, and we plan it that way.

Yes. Plenty of people book their own accommodation and want a vehicle with a driver for the region, or just for one leg of a longer trip. We hire vehicles out on their own, priced per day for the whole vehicle rather than as a package. Airport transfers and one-way runs between valleys work the same way.

Yes. Above about seven travellers we move to a Hiace Grand Cabin or a Coaster, and beyond that we run more than one vehicle with a lead driver coordinating. Rooms work out at roughly three to a room unless you want otherwise. Tell us the headcount early, because vehicle and room availability in peak season is the constraint, not the itinerary.

They are the same place. The region was administratively called the Northern Areas until 2009, when it was renamed Gilgit-Baltistan and given its own assembly. Older guidebooks, maps and some travel listings still use the old name, so if you are searching for a Northern Areas tour operator you are searching for the same region we work in.
