Reached by a short, thrilling jeep ride above Naran, it is one of Pakistan's most photographed places. About Lake Saif ul Malook
Sitting just above Naran at 3,224 m beneath Malika Parbat, the 'Queen of the Mountains', the lake is famous for its glassy reflections and changing colours through the day. On a calm morning the peaks mirror perfectly on the surface. It is a short but rough jeep track up from Naran, and boating on the lake is a popular add-on.
How to reach the lake
You reach Naran first — about 5–6 hours from Islamabad and 8–9 from Lahore via Balakot. From Naran, a 30–45 minute local 4x4 jeep ride climbs the rough track to the lake; normal cars cannot make it. Our packages include the Naran transport and the jeep transfer with an experienced driver.
Best time to visit
The lake and its jeep track are reliably open from roughly late May to September, when the snow has cleared. July–August is warmest and busiest; June and September are quieter with clear reflections. In winter the road and lake freeze and access closes, so this is a summer trip.
