Family Tours that everyone remembers
Safe, comfortable & flexible — designed for travelling with kids and elders.
Planning a family trip to northern Pakistan
Travelling with family in the mountains is a different kind of trip from a group of friends heading out for adventure. The pace has to suit the youngest and the oldest person in the car, the hotels need real family rooms rather than dormitory bunks, and the days should leave room for rest. Every package on this page is built with that in mind — gentler driving stages, sightseeing that does not depend on long treks, and drivers who are used to travelling with children on board.
The most family-friendly destinations
For a first family trip we usually recommend Skardu or Hunza. Skardu pairs easy lakeside sightseeing — Shangrila and the Kachura lakes — with a flat, safe valley floor, and you can reach it by a one-hour flight. Hunza offers forts the children can explore at Baltit and Altit, the turquoise Attabad Lake for a boat ride, and the sunrise viewpoint at Duikar. Families with a little more time often add Naran & Kaghan, which is fully drivable and close enough for a shorter holiday.
By air or by road with family?
This is the single biggest decision. Flying to Skardu or Gilgit removes two long travel days, which matters a great deal if you are travelling with toddlers or grandparents — but mountain flights can be delayed or cancelled by weather, so we always keep a flexible plan. Going by road costs less and lets you break the journey overnight at Naran or Chilas, turning the drive itself into part of the holiday. A popular middle path is to fly up and drive back, so the family arrives fresh and still sees the Karakoram Highway on the way home.
What we include for families

- Daily breakfast, with meal stops chosen for freshly cooked, mild food.
- Flexible, unhurried itineraries with built-in rest and acclimatisation days.
- A local point of contact throughout the trip for anything you need.
Best time to travel
May to September is the sweet spot for families — warm days, every lake and pass open, and the Deosai Plains reachable in July and August. April brings the famous Hunza cherry blossom and October the autumn colours; both are calmer and cooler than the peak summer rush, which can suit families who prefer fewer crowds. Whatever your dates, tell us the ages in your group and we will shape the route around them.
Family tour FAQs
Which northern areas are best for a family with young children?
Skardu and Hunza are the easiest. Both have proper hotels, short and gentle sightseeing drives, and lakes and forts you can enjoy without any trekking. We usually steer families with toddlers or grandparents towards a fly-in Skardu trip so nobody faces two long days on the road.
Should a family travel by air or by road?
If you have elders or small kids, flying Islamabad to Skardu or Gilgit saves two tiring travel days each way — but mountain flights are weather-dependent. By road is cheaper and lets you break the journey at Naran or Chilas, which many families actually enjoy. We often combine the two: fly one way, drive the other.
Are the hotels and food family-friendly?
Yes. We book family rooms with attached bathrooms and reliable hot water, and we plan stops at restaurants used to serving children — mild, freshly cooked food rather than heavy local spice. Tell us about any dietary needs and we adjust the plan.
Is it safe to travel in Gilgit-Baltistan with family?
Gilgit-Baltistan is one of the safest regions in Pakistan for tourists, with very low crime and welcoming local communities. The real things to manage are mountain roads and altitude, which is exactly why we use experienced drivers and build in rest and acclimatisation time.
What is the best time of year for a family tour?
May to September is ideal — pleasant days, all the lakes and high passes open, and the Deosai Plains accessible in July–August. Spring (April) brings the Hunza blossom and autumn (October) the golden colours, both gentler and less crowded than peak summer.
