Swat & Kalam Tour Packages

The Switzerland of the East — Malam Jabba, Kalam, Mahodand Lake and Ushu Forest.

Quick answer

What is there to see in Swat and Kalam, and how long does it take?

Swat and Kalam are a 4–5 day trip from Islamabad or Lahore, covering Malam Jabba's ski resort, the forests and river at Kalam, alpine Mahodand Lake, and the Ushu and Gabral meadows. Swat is greener and lower than Gilgit-Baltistan, which makes it an easier first mountain trip for families.

  • Reachable year-round; Malam Jabba runs a ski season in winter.
  • Mahodand Lake needs a 4x4 on the rough track beyond Kalam.
  • Lower altitude than the north — no acclimatisation concerns.

Our Swat and Kalam tour packages explore the lush green heart of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — the ski slopes of Malam Jabba, the forests and rivers of Kalam, the alpine Mahodand Lake, and the meadows of Ushu and Gabral. Often called the Switzerland of the East, Swat is an easy, scenic escape from Islamabad and Lahore for families and groups.

What a Swat & Kalam package covers

A typical 4 to 5 day trip combines Mingora and Malam Jabba with the upper Swat highlights — Kalam, Mahodand Lake (by jeep), Ushu Forest and Gabral Valley. The drive up the Swat River through Bahrain and Kalam is one of the prettiest in the country.

Best time to visit Swat & Kalam

Swat is a year-round destination. Summer (May to August) is green and ideal for Mahodand and the upper valleys, while winter (December to February) brings snow to Malam Jabba for skiing. The upper jeep tracks to Mahodand are best from late spring to early autumn.

How much does a Swat Kalam tour cost?

By-road Swat and Kalam packages start from around PKR 199,500 for a family of five on a 5-day trip covering Malam Jabba, Kalam and Mahodand Lake — about PKR 39,900 each. Shorter Malam Jabba weekend trips cost less, and longer itineraries that add Kumrat or Dir cost more. Price depends on group size, season, hotel tier and your pick-up city.

What's included in the price

Packages include hotels on the stated basis, transport from your pick-up city, the local jeep transfer to Mahodand Lake, fuel and tolls, and a guide for the listed sightseeing. Personal expenses, chairlift or cable-car tickets at Malam Jabba and meals not specified are usually extra — every quote comes with a clear inclusions list.

What's included

  • Private transport with a trained mountain driver (Coaster/van for larger groups)
  • Handpicked hotels — Standard, Executive, Luxury or Premium on request
  • Daily breakfast
  • Fuel, toll taxes & driver allowance
  • Expert local guide & 24/7 on-trip support

Not included

  • Lunch & dinner
  • Personal expenses (shopping, tips, etc.)
  • Extra activities (boating, jet ski, chairlifts)
  • Travel insurance & air tickets (unless a by-air package)
BUILT AROUND YOU

Most Swat trips are fully customised

We rarely sell a fixed, off-the-shelf tour. Instead we build each itinerary around your dates, group size, pace and budget — and confirm hotels based on live availability for your travel window. Your total package cost comes down to just two choices:

1 · Your vehicle

A private 4×4 with a trained mountain driver, sized to your group. For a smooth, comfortable mountain journey we usually recommend the Toyota Prado TZ, though the full range — from sedans to Land Cruisers, Grand Cabins and Coasters — is available depending on your group size.

2 · Your hotel standard

Choose from four tiers — Standard, Executive, Luxury and Premium. Same route, elevated comfort at each step. Premium and 5★ stays such as Shangrila, Broqand other resorts deliver the best locations and views; these raise the total but are worth it for a special trip.
