Leepa Valley tour — terraced green fields and wooden Kashmiri houses among pine forest

Leepa Valley Tour

Azad Kashmir's most beautiful valley — terraced rice fields, wooden houses and pine forest.

Published June 18, 2026 Pakistan Travellers Team 5 min read

Leepa Valley is widely called the most beautiful valley in Azad Kashmir — a lush bowl of terraced rice fields, apple and walnut orchards, traditional carved-wood houses and pine-clad slopes, tucked close to the Line of Control southeast of Muzaffarabad. Open to tourists only in summer and less visited than Neelum, it feels wonderfully unspoiled. Our tours handle the high Reshian Gali crossing, permits where needed, and stays.

About Leepa Valley

Leepa is a green, terraced valley famous for its scenery and its distinctive Kashmiri wooden architecture. Villages like Reshian, Chananian and Dao Khan sit among rice paddies and orchards, framed by forest and peaks. Its position near the LoC keeps it quiet and authentic — a glimpse of old Kashmir.

How to get there and access

Leepa is reached from Muzaffarabad over the high Reshian Gali pass — about a 4–5 hour mountain drive, and Muzaffarabad is 3–4 hours from Islamabad. Because it is near the LoC, access is generally open in summer but rules can change and documentation may be required, especially for foreigners; we check the current position before every trip.

Best time to visit

Leepa is a summer destination — roughly late May to September, once the Reshian Gali pass is clear of snow. The rice terraces are greenest in mid-summer and golden in early autumn. The pass closes in winter, so trips run in the warm months.

Tour packages

Leepa is usually a 3–4 day tour from Muzaffarabad, often paired with Pir Chinasi. We arrange transport over Reshian Gali, local stays and any paperwork. Tell us your dates and group for an all-in quote.

BUILT AROUND YOU

Most Leepa Valley trips are fully customised

We rarely sell a fixed, off-the-shelf tour. Instead we build each itinerary around your dates, group size, pace and budget — and confirm hotels based on live availability for your travel window. Your total package cost comes down to just two choices:

1 · Your vehicle

A private 4×4 with a trained mountain driver, sized to your group. For a smooth, comfortable mountain journey we usually recommend the Toyota Prado TZ, though the full range — from sedans to Land Cruisers, Grand Cabins and Coasters — is available depending on your group size.

2 · Your hotel standard

Choose from four tiers — Standard, Executive, Luxury and Premium. Same route, elevated comfort at each step. Premium and 5★ stays such as Shangrila, Broqand other resorts deliver the best locations and views; these raise the total but are worth it for a special trip.
