Who runs private tours in Skardu?

Pakistan Travellers is a private tour operator working across Skardu and Baltistan since 2013, with a Gilgit-Baltistan office in Shigar, about an hour from Skardu city. We arrange private 4x4 tours, Skardu Airport transfers, hotel bookings and vehicle hire with a driver. Every trip is private — your own vehicle and driver, never a shared coach. Skardu packages start at PKR 104,000 for the group of 2.

  • Contact: +92 371 5303587 (WhatsApp) · paktravellers01@gmail.com
  • Covers: Skardu, Shigar, Khaplu, Kharmang, Deosai, Basho, Sarfaranga and Katpana.
  • Bookings are confirmed with a 30% advance to reserve hotels and the vehicle; the remaining 70% is due at least 3 days before departure. Quotes and availability are handled over WhatsApp, usually within 30 minutes.

Pakistan Travellers is a tour operator and travel agency working in Skardu and the wider Baltistan region. We have run private trips here since 2013 — 4x4 tours, airport pickups, hotel bookings and vehicle hire — and our Gilgit-Baltistan office is in Sargrong Road, near City Police Station, Shigar, an hour up the road from Skardu city.

This page is about the company itself. If it is the trips you are after, they are on the Skardu tour packages page, with dates, itineraries and live prices. Skardu is one half of what we run — the wider region, including Hunza, Gilgit and Fairy Meadows, is on our Gilgit-Baltistan operations page.

What we do in Skardu

  • Private tours, never shared groups. Your own vehicle, your own driver, and an itinerary that can change on the morning if the weather says so.
  • Skardu Airport pickup and drop. We meet the Islamabad flight and hold the vehicle when the landing slips, which on this route it regularly does.
  • Hotel bookings across every category — guest houses through to the resorts on the lakes. See our guide to hotels in Skardu.
  • Car and 4x4 rental with driver, with or without a tour attached — car rental in Skardu.
  • Excursions across Baltistan — Deosai, Shigar, Khaplu, Kharmang and Basho, as day trips or as legs of a longer route.
  • Flights. We book the Islamabad–Skardu sector inside by-air packages and keep a road fallback in the plan.
  • Custom itineraries for anyone whose dates, budget or interests do not fit a standard package — build your own trip.

Our Skardu tour packages

These are live from our catalogue and update whenever a price changes, so nothing here can quietly go stale. Read the basis column carefully: most of our trips are priced for the whole group sharing one vehicle, and the ones still shown per person say so.

What a Skardu tour costs

The thing that surprises most people asking about Skardu tour cost is that we do not price per head. A tour is quoted for a group sharing one vehicle and a set number of rooms, and the vehicle is hired whole whether four people or six sit in it. So the total does not simply multiply as your party grows — adding a fifth traveller to a car that already has four in it changes very little.

Airfare is the one genuine exception. PIA charges per seat, so on a by-air package the flights are quoted as their own line rather than folded into the land price. That also keeps by-air and by-road trips comparable, which they otherwise would not be.

For what everything else in the region costs — hotels, meals, the jeep to Deosai, entry fees — we keep a separate breakdown of real market rates rather than our own. Skardu travel cost guide.

Why a local tour operator matters here

Skardu is not a place you can run from a desk in Punjab. The Sadpara road onto Deosai opens and closes with the snow line. The Islamabad flight cancels on weather with a few hours’ notice. Which hotel is worth its rate changes between seasons and sometimes between owners. An office in the region means we know these things on the day they happen, rather than when a guest calls to tell us.

It also means we will tell you when a plan does not work. Deosai before the snow clears, a four-day Skardu road trip, or Basho in a saloon car are things we will talk you out of rather than sell you. An itinerary that fails in the mountains costs us more than the booking was worth.

Where we take you in Baltistan

Skardu city is the base, and almost everything below is a day trip from it or a leg of a longer route. Drive times are the ones our own drivers quote.

  • Shangrila and Upper Kachura — half an hour out, and the two lakes most people picture when they picture Skardu.
  • Shigar — 1 hour. Shigar Fort, the Amburiq Mosque, and the road on towards the Braldu valley and the K2 trailheads. Our regional office is here.
  • Khaplu — 3 hours. Khaplu Palace above the Shyok valley. Worth an overnight rather than a six-hour round trip for a ninety-minute look.
  • Kharmang and Manthoka Falls — 2.5 hours, south along the Indus.
  • Deosai — 3 hours to Sheosar Lake, 4x4 only. The plateau above 4,000 m, open roughly late June until the first heavy snow.
  • Basho Valley — 2 hours, 4x4 only. Pine forest and river camping at the end of a genuine jeep track.
  • Sarfaranga cold desert and Katpana — both close enough to the city to fold into a half day.

Deosai Plains has a real season and a snow gate rather than a soft one, so it is worth reading up before you fix your dates. Deosai National Park guide · more on Baltistan.

How booking and payment work

Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp and you will get a written quote, usually within half an hour. Nothing is held until you confirm.

  • 30% advance confirms the booking and reserves the hotels and the vehicle.
  • The remaining 70% is due at least 3 days before departure.
  • You get a PNR with every confirmed booking, and a receipt for every payment. The booking is trackable online at any time with that PNR and the email you booked with — track a booking.

Quotes are written, not verbal, and they list what is included and what is not. If something is not on that list it is not in the price, which is the single most common way a mountain trip turns into an argument.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the length of the trip, the standard of hotel and whether you fly or drive — and on how we price, which is for the group rather than per head. A tour is quoted for a party sharing one vehicle and a set number of rooms, so the cost does not simply multiply by how many of you come. Airfare is the one exception: PIA charges per seat, so it is quoted as a separate line. The live rates for every Skardu package are on the packages page.

Four to five days if you fly from Islamabad — enough for Skardu town, the Kachura lakes, and one of Deosai, Shigar or Khaplu. Seven to eight days if you drive, because two of those days go on the road each way. Ten days lets you add Hunza on the same trip. Anything under four days by road is mostly driving.

Yes. Baltistan is among the safest parts of Pakistan and we run family trips here constantly, including with young children and older parents. The genuine risks are altitude and road conditions rather than security: Deosai sits above 4,000 m, mountain roads close on weather, and we do not drive the unpaved sections after dark.

Yes, we book the Islamabad–Skardu sector as part of by-air packages. It is a spectacular hour and it saves two days each way, but it is weather-dependent and cancels at short notice, so we keep a road fallback in the plan. A cancelled flight should cost you a change of route, not the holiday.

Yes. You can hire a vehicle with a driver on its own, without booking a package — the airport run, a Deosai day, or a car for your whole stay. Those are priced per day for the vehicle rather than as a group tour, and the fleet and rates are on our Skardu car rental page.

Ask four things. Does the company have anyone in the region, or is it booking from Punjab and hoping? Is the vehicle exclusively yours, and how long has the driver worked these particular roads? What is included in writing — transport, hotels, meals, tolls, fuel, driver allowance, entry fees — and what is not? And who answers the phone at nine at night when the Skardu flight is cancelled? An operator that answers all four crisply is worth more than one quoting slightly less.
