Day-by-Day Itinerary

1. 1Day 1:Arrival in Skardu

   Our representative meets you at Skardu Airport and transfers you privately to the hotel. What the rest of the day holds depends entirely on when the aircraft lands, which is not something anyone can promise in advance on this route — if you arrive early there is time for a slow walk around Skardu town before dinner. Weather dependent; timings and routing may change according to the airline.

2. 2Day 2:Kachura Lakes & Sarfaranga Desert

   Upper Kachura and Lower Kachura, the second better known as Shangrila, sit close together and take up the first half of the day. The afternoon runs out to the Sarfaranga cold desert, an expanse of dune and grit at altitude with the Karakoram standing behind it — an odd landscape to find at this height, and the reason it is worth the drive.

3. 3Day 3:Shigar Valley & Shigar Fort

   An hour north into Shigar, where the restored fort is the obvious stop but the villages around it are the reason to stay longer. These are traditional Baltistani settlements built in stone and timber, with irrigation channels running between the houses and apricot drying on the roofs in season. Riverside landscapes on the way back to Skardu.

4. 4Day 4:Khaplu Valley & Manthoka Waterfall

   A long day east along the Shyok, with Manthoka the stop on the way out — the fall is a short walk from the road and drops in stages. Khaplu Palace, restored and now working as a hotel, sits above the village and is the set piece; the mosque below it is older. You are back in Skardu for the evening. Subject to road and weather conditions.

5. 5Day 5:Deosai National Park by 4x4 Jeep

   Deosai is a national park and a plateau at once, and the drive up in the included 4x4 is the part most people underestimate — the track climbs steadily out of Sadpara and the air thins as it goes. Through July and August the ground carries wildflowers; before that it is still under snow. Sheosar Lake lies on the far side, visited when accessible. Seasonal and subject to weather, road and park access conditions.

6. 6Day 6:Departure from Skardu

   Breakfast at the hotel, then a private transfer to Skardu Airport for the return flight according to the confirmed schedule. This sector cancels on weather often enough that we do not treat the booking as finished until you are checked in. If it does cancel we rebook the next departure; going down by road instead is arranged separately. Weather dependent; timings and routing may change according to the airline.
