Rama Lake Astore tour — alpine meadow and lake beneath Nanga Parbat in Gilgit Baltistan

Rama Meadow & Lake Tour

Astore's alpine gem — Rama Meadow, Rama Lake and the face of Nanga Parbat.

Published June 18, 2026 Pakistan Travellers Team 5 min read

Rama Meadow and Rama Lake, above the town of Astore, are among the most beautiful alpine settings in Gilgit Baltistan — wide green meadows and pine forest opening to a glacial lake, all beneath the towering east face of Nanga Parbat, the 'Killer Mountain'. Cooler and quieter than the big valleys, Rama is a favourite for camping, photography and gentle walks. Our tours arrange the Astore drive, the jeep to Rama and stays.

About Rama Meadow and Lake

Rama Meadow sits at about 3,000 m above Astore, a lush expanse of grass and pine with Nanga Parbat looming beyond. A short walk or jeep ride above the meadow reaches Rama Lake, a still glacial pool that mirrors the peaks. The whole area is a peaceful, high-alpine retreat perfect for a night under canvas.

How to get there

Astore is reached from the Karakoram Highway near Jaglot — roughly a day's travel from Islamabad, or a short hop from Gilgit. From Astore town a jeep track climbs to Rama Meadow. Our packages include the transport and the local jeep transfer.

Best time to visit

Summer (June–September) is the season — green meadows, open jeep tracks and the best Nanga Parbat views. Autumn adds golden tones. Winter buries the area in snow and closes access, so we run Rama trips in the warm months.

Tour packages

Rama pairs naturally with Astore, Deosai and Minimarg for a complete Astore-region adventure, usually 4–6 days. We arrange camping or guesthouse stays, transport and the jeep. Tell us your dates and group for a quote.

BUILT AROUND YOU

Most Rama & Astore trips are fully customised

We rarely sell a fixed, off-the-shelf tour. Instead we build each itinerary around your dates, group size, pace and budget — and confirm hotels based on live availability for your travel window. Your total package cost comes down to just two choices:

1 · Your vehicle

A private 4×4 with a trained mountain driver, sized to your group. For a smooth, comfortable mountain journey we usually recommend the Toyota Prado TZ, though the full range — from sedans to Land Cruisers, Grand Cabins and Coasters — is available depending on your group size.

2 · Your hotel standard

Choose from four tiers — Standard, Executive, Luxury and Premium. Same route, elevated comfort at each step. Premium and 5★ stays such as Shangrila, Broqand other resorts deliver the best locations and views; these raise the total but are worth it for a special trip.
