Quick answer

Which company runs Gilgit-Baltistan tour packages, and what do they include?

Pakistan Travellers is a Gilgit-Baltistan specialist with resident teams in Hunza and Skardu, running private 4x4 packages covering Hunza, Skardu, Fairy Meadows, Khunjerab Pass, Naltar and Deosai. Packages typically include transport with driver, hotels, daily breakfast, tolls, fuel and local guiding, with flights and personal expenses listed separately.

  • Hunza 6–7 days · Skardu 7–8 days by road · Hunza + Skardu combined 10–12 days.
  • By-air packages available to Skardu and Gilgit; if the flight cancels we rebook the next departure.
  • Most of the region needs no permit for foreigners, but a few border zones require an NOC.

Our Gilgit Baltistan tour packages bring the whole region together in one trip — the forts of Hunza, the lakes of Skardu, the meadows beneath Nanga Parbat, the rainbow lakes of Naltar and the vast Deosai plateau. Travel by air or by road, with handpicked hotels, a private 4x4 and resident local guides.

Regions you can combine

Gilgit Baltistan packs an enormous amount into one province. Hunza and Skardu are the two main hubs; Gilgit is the gateway city; and Fairy Meadows, Naltar, Khunjerab Pass and Deosai are the headline day trips and side journeys. Hunza gives you Baltit and Altit forts, Attabad Lake, Passu Cones and the Eagle's Nest sunrise; Skardu opens up Shangrila, Upper Kachura, the Cold Desert, Shigar and Khaplu valleys and the gateway to K2. We tailor each itinerary to your time and pace so you are never rushing between highlights.

How to get there

Reach the region by air — short 45–60 minute flights to Skardu or Gilgit from Islamabad — or overland on the legendary Karakoram Highway (KKH). By road, Islamabad to Hunza is roughly 13–14 hours and Islamabad to Skardu about 17–20 hours driven straight through, and both are usually split over two days with an overnight stop. Most multi-region itineraries fly one way and drive the other to save time while still enjoying the best of the KKH scenery. Flights are weather-dependent, so we always build a road-backup plan into fly-in packages.

Sample 10-day Gilgit Baltistan itinerary

A popular combined route: Day 1 fly or drive Islamabad to Gilgit/Hunza; Days 2–4 explore Hunza (Karimabad, Baltit Fort, Attabad Lake, Passu, Khunjerab Pass); Day 5 drive Hunza to Skardu via the Gilgit–Skardu road; Days 6–8 explore Skardu (Shangrila, Kachura lakes, Cold Desert, Shigar or Khaplu); Day 9 optional Deosai plateau day trip; Day 10 fly Skardu to Islamabad. We shorten, extend or reverse this to match your dates, budget and pace.

Best time to visit Gilgit Baltistan

The main season runs May to October. April–May brings cherry and apricot blossom to Hunza; June–August opens the high passes, Deosai plateau and Naltar's alpine lakes; September–October delivers golden autumn valleys, clear skies and the best mountain views. Winter (November–March) is cold and many high roads close, but it offers dramatic snow scenery for hardy travellers. For blossom, aim early April; for Deosai and Khunjerab, aim July–August.

Where you stay and how you travel

We use handpicked hotels and guest houses across every category — from clean 3★ properties to 5★ resorts and premium riverside stays in Hunza and Skardu. Transport is a private, well-maintained vehicle sized to your group (sedan, 4x4 Prado/Land Cruiser, Grand Cabin or Coaster) with an experienced driver who works these roads year-round. On rough sections like the Raikot–Tato track for Fairy Meadows or the Deosai crossing, we use proper 4x4 jeeps.

How much does a Gilgit Baltistan tour cost?

Every package here is one price for the whole group. Single-region by-road tours start from around PKR 217,000 for a couple for a week — about PKR 108,500 each — and combined Hunza-and-Skardu road trips of 8–9 days start in the same range. Fly-in packages start from about PKR 104,000 for a couple, with air tickets on top at roughly PKR 60,000 return per seat from Islamabad. The price depends on how many regions you combine, your group size, season and hotel tier. Larger groups pay less per head, because the vehicle and rooms are booked whatever the headcount. Share your dates and group size on WhatsApp and we send a tailored quote, usually within 30 minutes.

Permits, safety and foreign travellers

Gilgit Baltistan is one of Pakistan's safest and most welcoming regions, with very low crime and famously hospitable communities. Pakistani nationals need no permit. Foreign nationals travel on their passport; only a few restricted zones near international borders need extra paperwork, which we arrange in advance. We handle NOCs where required, brief you on altitude and weather, and our guides carry first-aid and stay in constant contact with our base office throughout your trip.

BUILT AROUND YOU

Most Gilgit Baltistan trips are fully customised

We rarely sell a fixed, off-the-shelf tour. Instead we build each itinerary around your dates, group size, pace and budget — and confirm hotels based on live availability for your travel window. Your total package cost comes down to just two choices:

1 · Your vehicle

A private 4×4 with a trained mountain driver, sized to your group. For a smooth, comfortable mountain journey we usually recommend the Toyota Prado TZ, though the full range — from sedans to Land Cruisers, Grand Cabins and Coasters — is available depending on your group size.

2 · Your hotel standard

Choose from four tiers — Standard, Executive, Luxury and Premium. Same route, elevated comfort at each step. Premium and 5★ stays such as Shangrila, Broqand other resorts deliver the best locations and views; these raise the total but are worth it for a special trip.
