Best time to visit Hunza (Month by Month)
Hunza is a year-round destination but changes dramatically by season. Spring (late March to early May) brings the famous cherry and apricot blossom — a photographer's dream. Summer (June to August) is warm, green, and the only time you can be sure the Khunjerab Pass and Babusar Top are fully open. Autumn (late September to October) turns the entire valley into a canvas of gold and red, often considered the most beautiful season. Road vs Air: How to reach Hunza
You can reach Hunza entirely by road on the legendary Karakoram Highway (KKH). From Islamabad, it is roughly a 13–14 hour drive straight through, though we almost always split it with an overnight stay in Chilas or Naran to make the journey comfortable and scenic. Alternatively, you can fly from Islamabad to Gilgit (about 50 minutes) and drive the final 2–3 hours to Karimabad. Flights offer stunning views of Nanga Parbat but are strictly weather-dependent. For this reason, fly-in trips always include a road-backup plan. Many travellers choose to fly one leg and drive the other to balance time and scenery.

Even in summer, Hunza's evenings can be cool, especially near the lakes and at Khunjerab Pass. Bring a warm fleece jacket, a windbreaker, comfortable walking shoes (for the forts and Hussaini bridge), sunscreen, sunglasses, and a daypack. In spring and autumn, add thermals, a heavy jacket, and a warm hat. Modest clothing is recommended: long trousers and full sleeves for both men and women when exploring villages.
